Are you already working as a dog groomer but do not currently hold a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification?

The fast-track route to the iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management allows eligible, experienced groomers to demonstrate their existing skills and knowledge without attending the full 30-day practical training programme.

Theory work can be completed remotely, and practical assessments may be carried out by live video link while you groom suitable dogs within your own salon.

Who Is the Fast-Track Route For?

This route is designed for experienced dog groomers who are already confidently preparing, styling and finishing a range of breeds and coat types.

It may suit you if you:

• Currently work as a professional dog groomer

• Own or manage a grooming salon

• Are self-taught but have significant practical experience

• Hold a Level 2 grooming qualification and have continued to develop your styling skills

• Have completed previous grooming training but do not hold a regulated Level 3 Diploma

• Want formal recognition of your existing skills and knowledge

• Need a flexible route that can be completed around your business

This is an assessment route for experienced groomers and is not suitable for complete beginners.

Fast-Track Eligibility

To be considered for the fast-track route, you must normally provide evidence of either:

​

• A Level 2 dog grooming qualification with at least one year of styling experience; or

• At least one year of demonstrable professional styling experience

You will also need to provide supporting evidence, which may include:

• Customer reviews

• An employer reference

• Photographs showing a range of completed grooms

• Previous qualification certificates

• Evidence of salon employment or self-employment

• Professional development or seminar certificates

• Details of the breeds, coat types and styles you regularly groom

Each application is reviewed individually. Submitting evidence does not automatically guarantee acceptance onto the fast-track route.

 

How the Fast-Track Route Works

 

1. Initial Eligibility Review

Before registering, you will be asked to provide information about your previous training and professional grooming experience.

We will review your evidence to determine whether the fast-track route is appropriate for your current skill level.

 

2. Registration and Online Portfolio

Once accepted and registered, you will receive access to your theory workbook and e-portfolio.

You can work through the required theory at a pace that suits you, within the agreed completion period.

 

3. Grooming Evidence

You will build a portfolio demonstrating your practical experience across a suitable range of dogs, breeds, coat types and grooming techniques.

 

4. Practical Assessments

You will complete three practical assessments.

These may be completed:

• At Radleys Grooming Academy; or

• Remotely by live video link while grooming suitable dogs in your own salon

Remote assessments must allow the assessor to observe the required skills clearly and reliably. Suitable dogs, equipment, internet access and camera positioning will be your responsibility.

 

5. Canine Emergency First Aid

You must complete the required Canine Emergency First Aid unit.

This element requires attendance at an arranged practical first-aid training day.

 

6. Completion and Quality Assurance

Once all required practical and theory evidence has been completed, your portfolio will be assessed and quality assured.

The qualification can only be awarded once every required unit and assessment criterion has been successfully achieved.

 

Practical Evidence Requirements

Your practical evidence must include at least 20 dogs, covering a minimum of:

• 10 different breeds

• Six coat types

The required coat types are:

• Double coat

• Wool-mix coat

• Wire coat

• Silk coat

• Wool coat

• Short and smooth coat

You will also need to complete:

• A grooming log covering at least 20 dogs

• 10 detailed grooming diaries

• Photographic evidence

• Three practical assessments

• The required theory workbook

• Supporting portfolio evidence

The dogs selected must allow you to demonstrate an appropriate variety of preparation, styling and finishing skills.

 

Grooming Skills You May Need to Demonstrate

Your evidence and assessments may include:

• Health checking

• Safe handling and positioning

• Coat and skin assessment

• Planning an appropriate grooming style

• Bathing and drying

• Brushing and coat preparation

• Nail trimming

• Clipper work

• Blending

• Scissoring

• Styling different coat types

• Equipment selection and maintenance

• Adapting the groom to the individual dog

• Maintaining canine welfare throughout the process

Fast-track learners are expected to demonstrate established professional ability rather than learn fundamental grooming techniques from the beginning.

 

Qualification Units

The Diploma consists of eight mandatory units:

• 301: Health and Safety in a Dog Grooming Environment

• 302: Promote the Welfare of Dogs Conforming with Relevant Legislation

• 303: Customer Care and Managing Complaints

• 304: Assess and Plan Dog Grooming Styles and Maintenance of Equipment

• 305: Health Checking, Handling and Canine Behaviour

• 306: Prepare, Style and Finish a Range of Dog Breeds

• 307: Canine Emergency First Aid

• 308: Planning the Operation of a Small Canine Business

 

How Is the Qualification Assessed?

Assessment is completed through a portfolio of evidence, which includes:

• Theory work

• Practical assessment

• Grooming records

• Grooming diaries

• Photographic evidence

• Supporting professional evidence

• Assessor observation and feedback

There is no requirement to sit a formal written examination.

You must still demonstrate that your practical work and theoretical knowledge meet all requirements of the qualification.

 

Study at Your Own Pace

You will have up to 12 months to complete the fast-track programme.

This allows you to:

• Complete theory around your working hours

• Groom dogs within your own salon

• Build evidence through your normal professional work

• Arrange assessments at suitable points

• Progress at a manageable pace

Although the route is flexible, you will need to remain engaged, meet agreed deadlines and allow enough time for assessment and quality assurance.

 

A Formal, Regulated Qualification

The iPET Network Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management is a formal, nationally recognised qualification regulated by Ofqual.

The fast-track route leads to the same qualification as the full-delivery route. The difference is that your prior experience allows you to demonstrate existing competence through a more flexible method of delivery and assessment.

Although much of the programme can be completed remotely, you will not be expected to work through the qualification without guidance.

Support may include:
